The US President has confirmed he is suing the BBC for $10 billion which has been described as a “bankrupting number” a commentator told GB News.
The Late Show Live, Thomas Corbett-Dillon told GB News this will be devastating for the BBC “even if they paid half” of the money.
Trump is accusing the BBC of defamation and breaching Florida’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, he is seeking $5 billion per alleged offence committed.
Corbett-Dillon told GB News: “It’s interesting – that is a big number, and these are American numbers.
“If it was for something like CBS, they would be like, okay, fine, we can do that. To the BBC, this is a bankrupting number if they even have to pay half of this.

He stated: “I don’t know what reserves they’ve got, but I doubt it’s anywhere near a billion, they haven’t turned a profit in however long.
GB News host said that the BBC “doesn’t have $5 billion so there’s no point in going to $10billion.
“It works out at about £3.7billion, and it would be devastating if it was to get anywhere near that.”
Mr Corbett-Dillon agreed, adding: “What are their running costs? I don’t even think their running costs are even near that, are they?
“I mean, they must be high, but in the UK, we don’t do billions.”
The host continued, “What we do know is they’re currently shaking the piggy bank upside down to see what they do have.
“There will be people at the BBC right now scrutinising these numbers, trying to work out what this means, getting the very best lawyers on side.”
She added: “The BBC have messed this up. You don’t have to be a psychologist to know that with President Trump he wants to play fair. Actually, he wants to fight fair, but he also likes a deal.
“They should have come out straight away, they should have said, ‘we’re really sorry’. They should have offered a small amount of money, and they didn’t. They didn’t do it.”
The Deputy Leader of Reform UK has called for there to be a “wholesale clear out” of the BBC as the US President is set to sue the broadcaster for $10 billion following their “bias.”
Richard Tice said he supports Donald Trump’s legal action against the BBC, which comes as Trump has confirmed he will sue the broadcaster over the editing of the Panorama programme of his 6 January speech saying they may have used AI to create what he calls “fake news.”
Tice told GB News: “Well what I’m supportive of is the fact that President Trump is requesting and requiring much greater recognition within the BBC, just how badly they got things wrong and the wholesale change that needs to take place.
It’s already resulted in the Director General and the head of news going, but there needs to be a wholesale clear out of the bias in the BBC.
Whether it’s the bias against President Trump, whether it’s the bias against the Jewish community, there’s so many areas where the BBC has to do much, much better.
Tice was asked if this is the “end of the BBC,” he said that the BBC “consistently gets things wrong”.
“Well, there’s much that’s great about the BBC, but in the news section they get things consistently wrong, and that’s why wholesale reform is required.
“That’s why we’ve said that we would reform the funding model for the BBC. And look, President Trump is making a serious point. He is, quite rightly, absolutely furious.”
He added: “Is he negotiating from a high level will? Of course, who knows where it’ll end up.
“But what is absolutely certain is that wholesale reform of the BBC is required, including its funding model, and we at Reform have made that very plain and clear.”
