Chaos over trousers?
Nicky Morgan has been banned from No 10 after criticising Theresa May’s choice of leather trousers which cost £995, it has since emerged that she owns a £950 luxury leather handbag herself.
Last week the former education secretary suggested that the Prime Ministers outfit in a photo shoot would not go down well with her own constituents “in Loughborough market”.
Morgan was banned from Downing Street after a row with Fiona Hill, May’s joint chief of staff.
Adam Stares, deputy chairman of Morgan’s Loughborough constituency association, told BBC1’s Sunday Politics programme: “There’s a lot of people who think she is taking side-swipes at the government and at Theresa May. I think she just needs to get on with her job as an MP which she does very well, and support the government.”
A source close to Morgan defended her choice in handbag and told the Daily Mail, it was a gift that’s more than a decade old.
At the time of the argument, Morgan said: “My barometer is always, ‘How am I going to explain this in Loughborough market?’
She added: “I don’t have leather trousers. I don’t think I’ve ever spent that much on anything apart from my wedding dress.”
