What is it like to step into the shoes of Bill Gates, the richest man on the planet? Or to run the 41st biggest company in the world, by Forbes’ ranking?
Satya Nadella will soon find out. The current Microsoft enterprise and cloud executive VP has been appointed as the new CEO of Microsoft, according to Bloomberg, Steve Ballmer, who left in November.
Microsoft is also discussing replacing Gates as chairman, although it’s likely he’d stay involved in some capacity.

Gates might be replaced as chairman by Microsoft’s lead independent director, John Thompson.
Incoming CEO Nadella’s current cloud and enterprise division delivers the Cloud OS platform, which powers all of Microsoft’s internet cloud services, like Xbox Live and Skype, and business clouds around the world, as well as runnning products like Windows Azure and Windows Server.
The 46-year-old executive VP has been with the company for 20 years and has been tipped previously for the top job.
He previously headed up Microsoft’s $19bn server and tools business.
