A major internet outage is affecting dozens of websites, banks, apps, retailers and phone companies on Monday morning.
DownDetector said there was a huge spike in the number of reports over service issues involving the host of sites.
Amazon Web Services, Lloyds bank, Halifax, Bank of Scotland, WhatsApp, Xero and zoom plus many more apps are down.
Amazon Web Services said they have “identified a potential root cause” as to what is behind the massive internet outage.
They said in a statement, “Based on our investigation, the issue appears to be related to DNS resolution of the DynamoDB API endpoint in US-EAST-1.”
They added they are looking into “multiple parallel paths to accelerate recovery.”
On their website a full statement reads, “We can confirm significant error rates for requests made to the DynamoDB endpoint in the US-EAST-1 Region.
“This issue also affects other AWS Services in the US-EAST-1 Region as well. During this time, customers may be unable to create or update Support Cases.
“Engineers were immediately engaged and are actively working on both mitigating the issue, and fully understanding the root cause.
“The update said its Amazon DynamoDB database service had been “disrupted” and 20 other services had been “impacted” including Amazon CloudFront, AWS Config and AWS Security Token Service.”
