London could be poised for a new lockdown as coronavirus cases are doubling across the capital along with a shortage to no tests available.
Councillor Peter John, Chair of London Councils, told Times Radio, “We are seeing in London at the moment infection rate doubling every fortnight… Dido Harding told us that last week and we know that at least 20% of testing capacity has been removed from the city.”
According to an Evening Standard investigation, no appointments were not available to book online in any London borough.
When the newspaper tried to arrange “walk-in or drive-in slots in each of the 32 boroughs on Wednesday,” they were told via a message that “no test sites found.”
Prime Minister Boris Johnson told MPs on Wednesday that that the testing system does have “huge problems” and “many people are deeply frustrated.”
Across England positive coronavirus cases has risen by 167% between the end of August and 9 September.
Official figures revealed that 18,371 new people were confirmed to be infected across England in the six days between the 3 September and 9 September, which is an increase of 167%.
However, despite the doubling of cases across the capital, Boris Johnson’s spokesman said on Friday that nothing is planned for London, but he did urge people to stick to the rule of six.
