Mobile music-recognition service Shazam has hired Lastminute.com founder Brent Hoberman as an independent board member.
The move has fueled speculation that Shazam is planning a 2013 IPO. The London-based company has 250 million users and is adding two million new users every week.
Speaking about his appointment, Hoberman said, “Shazam is an amazing company that has become one of mobile’s most loved global brands.
“The company is uniquely positioned to continue its leadership role as it expands beyond music to provide content owners and brands with the most efficient way possible to enable consumers to engage with their offerings.”
Andrew Fisher, CEO, Shazam, commented: “Brent has played a key leadership role in a number of the UK’s most successful digital and media businesses, shaping the strategies that has helped them lead their markets.
“As Shazam continues on its mission to lead the market for media engagement by providing consumers with the most efficient way possible to engage with content and brands Brent’s experience and insight will be invaluable.”
