On Thursday Israel launched attacks on the main airports in the northern Syrian city of Allepo in the capital Damascus, Syrian state TV has said.

Syrian air defenses were launched in response to Israels attacks, local media channel Sham FM said.

State news agency SANA has reported, cited a Syrian military source that “bursts of missiles” hit airports in Damascus and Aleppo at the same time.

Sham FM said that runways have been damaged and no casualties were reported at Aleppo airport, but no information was provided on the strike at Damascus Airport.

Sources have said that the strikes in Syria are to interrupt Iranian supply lines into the country which are thought to be ending up with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

Since the civilian war started in 2011, the Iranian regime’s influence and support has been growing with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Syria’s Transport Ministry said that technical teams are working out the true extent of the damaged caused by the Israeli strikes, as on Friday it is expected Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian is due to visit Syria.
