Iran’s top security chief Ali Larijani reportedly killed in Israeli strike

17th Mar 26 9:58 am

Ali Larijani, who holds the position of secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has allegedly been killed, as reported by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz.

At present, Iranian officials have not confirmed this claim, creating uncertainty about the situation.

If this allegation is verified, it would mark a significant escalation in the conflict, as Larijani would become the highest-ranking Iranian official killed since the onset of hostilities.

This would occur following the earlier deaths of Ali Khamenei, the former Supreme Leader of Iran, along with several family members, during the initial wave of coordinated US-Israeli strikes that began on February 28.

Larijani was last publicly seen at the Quds Day rally on Friday in Tehran, where he stood alongside Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to express solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Known for his extensive experience in Iran’s political sphere, Larijani has served in various capacities, including as the speaker of the parliament and as the chief negotiator for Iran’s nuclear discussions with Western powers.

His involvement in these critical negotiations has established him as a key strategist within Iran’s security apparatus and a prominent voice in its foreign policy.

In a related development, the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported that they had also carried out a successful operation that resulted in the death of Gholam Reza Soleimani, who is the commander of the Basij paramilitary force operating under the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The IDF stated that this strike was conducted in “the heart of Tehran” and was based on precise intelligence gathered by Israeli military intelligence.

As of now, Iranian authorities have yet to confirm the death of Soleimani, creating further ambiguity regarding the accuracy of both claims. The situation continues to unfold, heightening tensions in the region as the conflict escalates.
