Explosions rock Kerch sea port as Kyiv has just kicked in Putin’s front door

Explosions rocked both sides of the Kerch Strait as Ukrainian drones targeted the fuel arteries keeping Vladimir Putin’s war machine moving — leaving Russia’s prized peninsula facing a fresh supply crisis.

A major overnight attack has sent shockwaves through occupied Crimea after Ukrainian forces reportedly struck fuel terminals and port infrastructure on both sides of the strategic Kerch Strait.

Huge fires were reported at key logistics sites, with dramatic footage appearing to show thick smoke pouring into the sky from an oil terminal in the Crimean city of Kerch.

The blaze was reportedly centred on a fuel facility operated by Crimean energy company TES — a major terminal handling petroleum products and liquefied gas.

Across the water in Russia’s Krasnodar region, another fire erupted at the Kavkaz port on the Chushka Spit, a crucial transport hub used to move supplies through the region.

The strikes represent another humiliating blow for Moscow’s claim that Crimea is a protected fortress far from the battlefield.

The peninsula — illegally annexed by Russia in 2014 — has long been portrayed by the Kremlin as an untouchable symbol of Russian power.

But Ukraine’s escalating drone campaign is now turning that symbol into one of Russia’s biggest vulnerabilities.

Kyiv has increasingly targeted the infrastructure that keeps Russian forces supplied, striking fuel depots, energy facilities, transport routes and military assets deep behind the front line.

The Kerch Strait is one of the most important supply corridors in the region, linking Russia’s mainland with occupied Crimea and supporting Moscow’s military operations across southern Ukraine.

By hitting fuel and transport infrastructure there, Ukraine is attempting to choke the flow of supplies and make the peninsula harder and more expensive for Russia to maintain.

The attacks come as Crimea faces mounting fuel problems after previous Ukrainian strikes disrupted energy networks and storage facilities.

Russian-backed authorities have already introduced restrictions on fuel purchases, with supplies reportedly being prioritised for state services and security forces.

For ordinary residents, the impact is becoming increasingly visible.

The Kremlin promised that Russian rule would bring stability and security to Crimea. Instead, residents are now facing shortages, restrictions and the reality of a war that Moscow once insisted was happening far away.

The latest strikes also highlight a growing problem for Russia’s military: its air defences are being stretched across thousands of miles of territory.

Ukrainian drones have repeatedly reached targets once considered beyond Kyiv’s reach, forcing Moscow to defend everything from occupied territory to major industrial areas inside Russia itself.

Ukraine’s message is clear — there will be no safe rear area for Russia while the war continues.

And for Putin, the burning fuel terminals around the Kerch Strait deliver a painful reminder:

The peninsula he claimed as a trophy is becoming a battlefield.
