In a shock announcement Diane Abbott, the shadow home secretary has admitted she is happy with the way Boris Johnson and his Cabinet are dealing with coronavirus.
Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Any Questions? On Friday evening the Labour MP said she was “happy with the way the government is handling” the outbreak of coronavirus in the UK, but stressed she wants more information.
She said, “Well, first of all, I’d like to commiserate the 163 victims.
“It must be appalling. And also, people who are victims who feel they may go the way of the two that have died.
“I am happy with the way the Government is handling it, as far as I know.
“But actually, I would like to know more.”
Abbott added, “It might not be appropriate for me to know more, but I would like to know more.
“I am not sure that all we want from the government, publicly, are soothing noises and telling us to wash our hands.”
Under new government guidelines to tackle the rise of the coronavirus outbreak, elderly people will be told to stay at home.
The Department for Health has warned that the elderly could be “cut off” from the world as advice will be to stay clear of crowded areas and stay at home.
