You might want to re-think your plans of going to Oxford Street this weekend as a burst water main has flooded several shops in the UK’s busiest street.
The pipe burst overnight on Thursday and flooded 14 shops including Primark, Ann Summers, Next, Holland & Barrett and Superdrug, a spokesperson for Thames Water said.
Clean up teams have been onsite to clean mud and dirt away and a section between Park Lane and Portman Street has been partially closed to traffic with 18 bus routes diverted.
Westminster City Council Cabinet member for city management Ed Argar said:
“Oxford Street is still open for business today, although vehicles are asked to avoid the area.
“We have begun excavations to determine the seriousness of the problem, but we expect road closures to go into the middle of next week.
“We are working with Thames Water and New West End Company to ensure that this important part of London continues to function in the interests of businesses, residents and visitors.”
