ALDI has debuted in the tablet market with the £80 7-inch Medion Lifetab E7316.

The budget retailer undercuts the £119 Tesco Hudl and Argos’ £100 MyTablet.

The 8-GB tablet is 11m thick, weighs 301g and runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean processor.

It also has front and rear facing cameras, which both offer low 0.3MP and 2MP resolutions respectively.

Tony Baines, managing director of buying at Aldi, said: “It’s easy to get carried away at Christmas as you want to buy the best presents for your loved ones. There’s real pressure on shoppers – especially parents – to deliver top quality gifts, regardless of the price. We have positioned our Christmas offering this year to cater for every member of the immediate family with a fantastic gift that comes in at a manageable price, without compromising on quality.”

The tablets go on sale this Sunday.
