How happy are you feeling today?
You might be a happy bunny with “If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands” as your mobile ringtone, but citizens from over 20 other countries are way happier than you.
According to United Nations’ World Happiness Report, 22 countries including Costa Rica, the US and Mexico are happier than the UK.
The report found Denmark to be the happiest country in the world thanks to a combination of a relatively high GDP, good healthy life expectancy and high levels of social support.
Burundi was ranked as the least happy nation followed by Syria.
Jeffrey Sachs, director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University and author of the report, said that happiness and well-being should be a big priority for every nation.
He said: “Human well-being should be nurtured through a holistic approach that combines economic, social and environmental objectives.
“Measuring self-reported happiness and achieving well-being should be on every nation’s agenda as they begin to pursue the sustainable development goals.
“Indeed the goals themselves embody the very idea that human well-being should be nurtured through a holistic approach that combines economic, social and environmental objectives.
“Rather than taking a narrow approach focused solely on economic growth, we should promote societies that are prosperous, just, and environmentally sustainable.”
