Starmer’s allies scurry around him amid calls for his resignation

Anwar Sarwar the Scottish leader has called on Sir Keir Starmer to resign as Prime Minister amid the ongoing Peter Mandelson scandal gripping the government.

Sarwar held a last minute press conference on Monday afternoon, the Scottish leader said, “The distraction needs to end and the leadership in Downing Street has to change.”

Sarwar said that Starmer is risking the UK to a third of a decade of SNP rule, he also said that he has a “genuine friendship” with the Prime Minister and his speech is not easy.

He said, “That’s why the distraction needs to end, and the leadership in Downing Street has to change… We cannot allow the failures at the heart of Downing Street to mean the failures continue here in Scotland.

“I have to be honest about failure wherever I see it – the situation in Downing Street is not good enough.

“There have been too many mistakes. They promised they were going to be different, but too much has happened.

Keir Starmer is a decent man, and it’s no secret I have always got on with him and he’s dedicated his life to public service.

“The people of Scotland are crying out for competent government… they want to see leaders that put the national interest before themselves.”

Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy wrote on X, “Keir Starmer won a massive mandate 18 months ago, for five years to deliver on Labour’s manifesto that we all stood on.

“We should let nothing distract us from our mission to change Britain and we support the Prime Minister in doing that.”

Chancellor Rachel Reeves insisted, “Rebuilding Britain takes time. But thanks to the decisions we’ve made NHS waiting lists are falling. Inflation is falling. Interest rates are falling.

“The conditions for the economy to grow are there.

“With Keir as our Prime Minister we are turning the country around.”

Communities Secretary Steve Reed said, “Keir led our party to victory and won a mandate for change.”

The Health Secretary Wes Streeting said that the atmosphere in Downing Street is “febrile” and insisted Starmer “doesn’t need to resign,” and he called on his colleagues to give the Prime Minister “a chance.”

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said, “Keir led our party to a General Election victory 18 months ago and he is the right person for the job in difficult circumstances. The public want us to fix the country’s problems, not fixate on ourselves.”
