The Metropolitan Police have said that they will not investigate many claims that there was at least seven Christmas parties in Downing Street during the lockdown last year.
The Met Police said that officers will not “commence an investigation at this time” in line with their ‘policy not to investigate retrospective breaches.”
This comes despite leaked video evidence which does suggest that parties did take place in Downing Street.
However, Scotland Yard did say they are open to consider any further evidence found during a No.10 investigation.
Scotland Yard said in a statement that they acknowledge they have received “a significant amount of correspondence” over the alleged breaches in the run up to Christmas last year.
The statement added, “Based on the absence of evidence and in line with our policy not to investigate retrospective breaches of such regulations, the Met will not commence an investigation at this time.
“The Met has had discussions with the Cabinet Office in relation to the investigation by the Cabinet Secretary.
“If any evidence is found as a result of that investigation, it will be passed to the Met for further consideration.”
