The much-awaited Samsung Galaxy S5 aka “superphone” is finally here.

Unveiled at the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona yesterday, the phone boasts a 5.25-inch screen, 16MP camera, fingerprint sensor and runs Android KitKat 4.4.

The handset comes in four colours: black, white, blue and gold and is dust and water resistant.

The USP of the phone is the fingerprint scanner which can be used for unlocking the device and registering biometric security. Samsung has also partnered with Paypal to offer payment-by-finger.

Other features of the device include health and fitness applications which include a built-in heart monitor, pedometer and fitness apps.

The company also launched its second smartwatch Gear 2 and a wearble band device called Gear Fit yesterday. The watch and fitness band can be used to check pulse through the skin on the wrist during the day or a workout.

Samsung also launched “S Health 3.0”, a software that produces graphs or tables of health results to track changes in your body over time.

The app also creates a fitness regime for you including a range of activities like jogging, climbing stairs et al.

“Exercise, food, sleep, stress, and weight.

“You can monitor and track each of these areas with Samsung’s Lifestyle Coach app. Part of the S Health suite,” Samsung said.

“We’ve decided to go back to basics with the Galaxy S5 and focus on the features and things that matter the most to our customers – namely the camera, ability to view and download data and content quickly and their health and wellbeing,” said Simon Stanford, vice president of IT & Mobile division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland.
