The Met Office has issued yellow wind warnings for much of the UK, with gusts reaching up to 70 mph affecting parts of Scotland, northern England, and Northern Ireland.
In Scotland and England, widespread gusts of 50–55 mph are anticipated, while some coastal areas and locations downwind of high ground could experience winds of 60–70 mph. Authorities have warned of possible delays to road, rail, ferry, and air travel, as well as potential short-term power outages.
The Met Office said there will be strong winds in some areas on Thursday due to an “active weather front moving southeastwards across the UK”.
ScotRail has implemented speed restrictions on the West Highland, Highland Main, Far North, and Kyle Lines. Additionally, some Caledonian MacBrayne ferries on Scotland’s west coast have experienced disruptions. In Aberdeenshire, the A90 was blocked at Fordoun due to a fallen power line.
The wind warning for Scotland and England is in effect until 8 PM on Thursday, while Northern Ireland is facing gusts of 40–50 mph, with isolated peaks of 50–60 mph accompanied by heavy rain until midday Thursday. Winds are expected to ease from the west later in the morning.
