Iran warns of ‘historic hell for US forces’ and mobilises one million troops

Iran has announced that it has mobilised over a million troops and volunteer fighters to counter a potential US ground invasion, warning that any such attack would lead to a “historic hell for American forces.”

Officials in Tehran reported a recent surge in recruits, with many young men volunteering to join the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The state-linked Tasnim News Agency cited a “well-informed military source” stating that more than a million individuals have already organised for combat roles, along with a “huge influx” of new enlistment requests.

The source said: “America wants to open the Strait through suicide and self-destruction – that’s fine.

We are prepared for them to act on their suicide strategy, and for the Strait to remain closed.”

Iranian state media outlet reported: “As speculation grows about the possibility of America’s historic folly of entering a ground battle on Iran’s southern front, a wave of enthusiasm has formed among Iran’s ground fighters to create a historic hell for the Americans on Iranian soil.

He noted that in addition to organising over one million fighters for ground combat, a massive influx of applications from young Iranians has poured into the centres of the Basij, the Revolutionary Guard Corps, and the Army in recent days to participate in this fight as well.

In a separate statement reported by the ISNA news agency, Brigadier General Ali Jahanshahi, commander of Iran’s ground forces, emphasised that any land conflict would be “more dangerous and costly for the enemy,” adding that Iranian forces are closely monitoring all US movements.

These claims of mobilisation come amid escalating tensions with Donald Trump, who has repeatedly urged Iran to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. The US president has threatened strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure—potentially including a ground operation—if shipping through the waterway is not fully restored.

In response to these threats, the Iranian military source told Tasnim, “The US wants to open the Strait of Hormuz with suicide and self-destructive tactics; that’s fine. We are ready.”

Despite Trump’s recent claims that talks between Washington and Tehran were in progress, Iranian officials have firmly denied any negotiations, accusing the US of using diplomacy as a pretext for preparing military action in southern Iran.

Meanwhile, US troop deployments to the region are increasing. Reports indicate that around 1,000 additional American troops could be sent to the Middle East in the coming days, adding to the existing force of roughly 50,000 personnel already stationed in the region.

Analysts have identified Kharg Island, the centre of Iran’s oil export infrastructure, as a potential flashpoint in any ground conflict, with severe economic and military consequences far beyond the battlefield.
