British Council building in Kyiv ‘destroyed’ by ‘a Russian missile’

The British Foreign Office is “to summon” the Russian ambassador, Sky News reported, following a brutal nine hour and nine-minute ballistic cruise missile and drone attack on Ukraine which “severely damaged” the British Council in Kyiv.

The British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer slammed Vladimir Putin demanding that this “bloodshed must end” and accused the Russian dictator of “sabotaging” all hope of peace.

Writing on X Starmer said, “My thoughts are with all those affected by the senseless Russian strikes on Kyiv which have damaged the British Council building.

“Putin is killing children and civilians, and sabotaging hopes of peace. This bloodshed must end.”

The Russian attack hit “critical infrastructure” in Ukraine’s Vinnystia region cutting power for 60,000 people and almost 100 buildings were damaged or destroyed.

A British Council spokesperson said the office in Kyiv was “severely damaged” which will remain closed to the public until further notice.

They added, “While there may be some delays in our responses, our work with our Ukrainian partners in education and culture continues.”

The chief executive of the Council Scott McDonald said a guard was injured in the “massive Russian attack” on Kyiv overnight and he is “shaken but stable.”

The spokesperson added, “Thankfully, our colleagues are all safe and our work with our Ukrainian partners in education and culture will continue uninterrupted.”

Russia proudly said that “all designated objects were hit” and said they carried out strikes on military air bases and businesses they claim are part of Ukraine’s military industrial complex.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence said in a statement, “All designated objects were hit.”

In the Russian attack the EU delegation building was also “severely damaged by the shock wave” which was described by the president of the EU Council, Antonio Costa as a “deliberate Russian attack.”

He said, “the EU will not be intimidated.

Russia’s aggression only strengthens our resolve to stand with Ukraine and its people.”

The European Union’s foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the EU will summon the Russian envoy in Brussels following the attack.

Kallas wrote on X, “No diplomatic mission should ever be a target.”

French President Emmanuel Macron hit out at the Kremlin’s massive attack on Ukraine and the capital overnight calling it pure “terrorism and barbarism.”

Macron wrote on X, “Six hundred and twenty-nine missiles and drones in a single night over Ukraine: this is Russia’s idea of peace. Terror and barbarism.”
