Would you like an iPhone with which you can turn off lights? Well it’s just around the corner, if rumours are to be believed.

Apple is to make a foray into the “internet of things” arena with a big announcement at its Worldwide Developer Conference on June 2 in San Francisco.

For those of you who don’t know, the internet of things is a network of physical objects that contain embedded technology to communicate and sense or interact with their internal states or the external environment.

The FT reports that Apple is in talks with other device makers to launch phones with a “new smart platform”.

The news comes after Google acquired Nest Labs for $3.2bn and Samsung’s recent launch of its Smart Home range of TVs and fridges that can be controlled from phones.
