Some residents in Sandringham have been sharing their thoughts following the recent arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, a rare event involving a senior royal that has attracted widespread attention.

The world’s press has set up shop outside Sandringham after he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office and spent 11 hours in police custody.

Andrew was then driven back to Wood Farm, where ordinary Brits would have to make their own way home once released from custody.

Speaking to The Times, Luke Schrier, 47, said, “I just think Andrew needs to go. It’s an embarrassment to England because this is going to be worldwide.”

Local bricklayer Jamie Jackson said: “My mum and my nan all follow [the royals] – anyone my age doesn’t care. I don’t know anyone who supports him around here.

“I don’t think it’s very fair. They’ve arrested him in a Range Rover, brand-spanking new – why didn’t he go in the back of a Mondeo like anybody else?”

Another resident, who did not give his name, said he was “shocked” when he learned Andrew was arrested, adding, “I think it’s a bit of a witch-hunt, but he’s horrible.”

Buckingham Palace will not allow the financial burden to fall on the taxpayer if Andrew cannot pay for his own legal bills.

A source told the Telegraph that any costs “will not fall on the public purse.”

The source added that it is unlikely King Charles himself will pay for any legal bill.

Detectives are continuing their searches of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor‘s former home in Berkshire on Friday following his release from custody after his arrest.

Andrew was released under investigation on Thursday evening after being arrested earlier in the day on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

Thames Valley Police confirmed the arrest following allegations made against the former prince after the release of millions of pages of files related to paedophile financier Jeffrey Epstein.

Thames Valley Police previously said the force was reviewing allegations that a woman was trafficked to the UK by Jeffrey Epstein to have a sexual encounter with Andrew, and claims he shared sensitive information with the paedophile while serving as the UK’s trade envoy.

Andrew has constantly vehemently denied any wrongdoing over his Epstein links, and is the first senior royal in modern history to be arrested.
