Console-based computer games could be set to make a major come-back as it has emerged that Amazon is investing significantly in developing its own games, ahead of the expected launch of its own games console later this year.
The Telegraph reports that Amazon is set to transform its Amazon Games Studios “into a major operation”.
The idea is that Amazon will sell its own games and the new console to keep players buying from Amazon’s own range, in the same way that the company gets a continuing revenue stream from purchases of ebooks once it has sold in a Kindle.
Amazon is on a recruiting drive to attract gaming talent in the US. It acquired Double Helix Games in February, a games developer.
