Thieves have stolen over 400,000 KitKats from a truck in a bold heist.

The incident took place in Switzerland, where the criminals targeted a truck transporting the popular chocolate bars from central Italy to Poland, as reported by the Mirror.

With Easter approaching, chocolate lovers are disheartened to learn that Nestlé, the food and beverage giant, has warned of a potential KitKat shortage. This situation could make it challenging for consumers to find their favourite chocolates in stores before the holiday.

A spokesperson for KitKat stated, “We’ve always encouraged people to have a break with KITKAT, but it seems thieves have taken this message too literally, making off with more than 12 tonnes of our chocolate.”

They added: “While we appreciate the criminals’ exceptional taste, the fact remains that cargo theft is an escalating issue for businesses of all sizes.

“With increasingly sophisticated schemes being employed, we have decided to share our experience in hopes of raising awareness about this growing criminal trend.”

Nestlé has not disclosed the specific location of the truck theft, but it is believed that the stolen chocolate may enter unofficial sales channels across Europe. However, the company remains optimistic about recovering the stolen goods.

In a statement, KitKat revealed that the missing bars can be traced using a unique batch code. If individuals come across these specific batch numbers, they will receive instructions on how to contact KitKat. According to Nestlé, “If a match is found, the scanner will provide clear instructions on how to alert KITKAT, who will then take appropriate action based on the evidence.”
