A shadowy group believed to have links to Iran has claimed responsibility for the stabbing of two Jewish men in north London, in an incident police have declared a terrorist attack.
The assault took place in Golders Green, an area with a large Jewish community, where a man was seen running with a knife and “attempting to stab Jewish members of the public” before being detained and arrested.
The SITE Intelligence Group reported that a little-known organisation, Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiya (HAYI), claimed one of its “lone wolves” carried out the attack. The group has previously claimed responsibility for a string of incidents targeting Jewish-linked sites across Europe in recent months.
Two victims were treated at the scene by Hatzola, while Community Security Trust said it was working closely with police and urged witnesses to come forward.
The Metropolitan Police have launched a counter-terrorism investigation, amid growing concern over a spate of antisemitic attacks in the capital.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the incident as “deeply concerning”, telling MPs that there must be “absolutely no place for antisemitism in society” as he confirmed a full investigation was underway.
The stabbing follows a series of recent attacks on Jewish institutions in north London, including arson incidents targeting synagogues and community facilities. Police have made multiple arrests in connection with those events, but community leaders warn tensions remain high.
Israel’s foreign ministry issued a sharply worded response, urging the UK Government to take more decisive action. It said that after repeated attacks on synagogues, charities and individuals, the situation could no longer be described as under control.
Officials stressed the need to confront what they described as the “roots of antisemitism”, warning that statements alone would not be sufficient to reassure affected communities.
The incident underscores mounting fears about the spillover of international tensions onto British streets, with security services now assessing whether the attack forms part of a broader pattern of coordinated or inspired violence.
For now, police say their priority is to establish the full circumstances of the attack — and whether the online claim of responsibility has any direct link to the suspect in custody.
