Overnight Polish airspace was “violated” by a “huge number of Russian drones” forcing NATO fighter jets to be scrambled.

The Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the Russia “drones that posed a direct threat were shot down.”

Defence minister Wladysław Kosiniak-Kamysz wrote on X that “more than 10 objects” entered into Polish airspace which constituted a direct threat to Poland’s security and were “neutralised.”

The Polish Prime Minister said he received a report from the Operational Command of the Army about “the shutting down of drones that entered our airspace and could constitute a threat”.

The NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has been informed and as a result of the Russian drones Poland shutdown Warsaw airport which has recently been reopened.

NATO spokesman Allison Hart said they are “in close consultation” with Poland and another alliance source said that initial indications shows the drone incursion was a deliberate act, to which a US Senator has said this is an “act war.”

Poland is now considering to invoke NATO’s Article 4 clause which will trigger consultations with their NATO allies.

Article 4 is the first step which triggers large-scale responses by the alliance, Article 4 states, “The Parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened.”

The Polish Prime Minister issued a grave warning saying European conflict is “closer that at any time since second world war.”

Tusk added, “There is no reason to claim that we are in a state of war… but the situation is significantly more dangerous than all previous ones.”

Shadow Defence Secretary, James Cartlidge said, “We send our total solidarity and support to our Polish allies this morning.

“This is obviously a developing situation, but one in which NATO stands strong and united.

Putin’s contempt for the sovereignty and freedom of countries like Poland and the Baltic states makes clear why Britain must never relent in reinforcing NATO’s eastern flank- and why his aggression must be defeated in Ukraine.”

The French President Emmanuel Macron said that Russia’s actions is “simply unacceptable” and warned this is a “reckless escalation.”

He said on X ,”The incursion of Russian drones into Polish airspace during an attack carried out by Russia against Ukraine is simply unacceptable.

“I condemn it in the strongest terms. I call on Russia to put an end to this reckless escalation.

“I reiterate to the Polish people and their government our full solidarity.

“I will soon speak with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. We will not compromise on the security of the Allies.”
