Chancellor warned she is in a ‘more precarious position’ and her days are numbered

The Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has warned the Chancellor is in a “precarious position” as farmers protest in London over Rachel Reeve’s inheritance tax hike.

Farage slammed Reeves over her Autumn Budget accusing her of “denting confidence in the UK economy” by targeting farmers.

Speaking to GB News the Reform UK leader said that the “sums don’t add up” and called for the inheritance tax to be scrapped and called it “death taxes.”

He said, “Whatever level you’re at, I think inheritance tax, or more accurately, death taxes, should be abolished outright.”

Today MPs are debating the Chancellor’s proposed inheritance tax changes as an e-petition has more than 148,000 signatures calling the tax policy to be reversed.

Farage said the inheritance tax has distorted land values as wealthy investors are moving through loopholes, GN News reports.

“Some big billionaires have bought up vast tracts of Lincolnshire, pushing land prices up to £25,000 an acre, because there has been an inheritance tax loophole.”

Farage added, “The new proposals don’t just affect farmers, they affect family businesses as well, and it’s just yet another reason why people are selling up and leaving the country.”

Farage joined farmers in London for their protest and said that “MPs need to listen” to what they are saying, he added that there “are some wins” that they can gain.

He told farmers, “The family farm should not be driven out of existence. Politically, I think we can win this.

“It isn’t just the farms that it hits, it’s family businesses as well. The whole thing is monstrous!”

Farage said, “The country now is going to come together now with lots of different groups, and let’s just stand up and say no to death taxes full stop.

“End death taxes – they’re wrong, they’re immoral, at every level. And the way your community is being treated is unbelievable.”

Speaking about the government’s plans to “cover land in solar panels” to achieve net zero, he said they have either got “their sums wrong” or Labour “just wants lots of land.”

Farage told protesters, “I think somebody in the Treasury got their sums wrong when they set the financial limits. Or could it be they just want lots of land, because they’re planning for another 5 million people to come into the country in the next few years.

“They want to cover tens of thousands of grade one agricultural land in places like Lincolnshire with solar panels. Could it be there is an even deeper, more sinister agenda behind what they’re doing?”

He added: “Either way, what they’re doing is wrong. And I think the one thing the people of this country have is a strong affinity and a strong feeling for the countryside, and that countryside is as beautiful as it is because of families.

“Be it small farms or bigger estates that have managed this land for centuries and left it as it is, so let’s get the whole country behind this campaign.”

Farage added, “I also promise that if we have anything to do with it after the next general election, and you never know, the polls are looking quite good at the moment.

“If we have anything to do with it after the next election, if this has been done to your community, I promise you we will reverse it and I make the promise to you. So look, let’s keep fighting. Let’s keep the pressure up here and right around the country.”
