Wife of Ukraine’s spy chief survives Russian assassination attempt

Marianna Budanova, the wife of Ukraine’s spy chief Maj-Gen Kyrylo Budanov has survived an assassination attempt after being poisoned.

Other intelligence staff have been poisoned by Russian agents using “heavy metals” intelligence sources have revealed.

Mrs Budanova, 30, has been hospitalised after suffering with a prolonged deterioration with her health.

A source told Ukrainian Pravda, “According to Budanov’s wife (poisoning), it is true. She complained of not feeling well, so they passed tests, which revealed poisoning.”

Intelligence sources have said that she “was most likely poisoned by food” and is “passed the first stage of treatment.”

The source added, “Since Budanov’s wife is small with a small weight, it manifested itself faster in her. And so the poisoning was confirmed in several other employees.

“They are just a little giant, they did not notice anything behind them, they are also being treated now.”

The source said that the substances used to poison her is “in no way used in everyday life and military affairs.”

“Their presence may indicate a deliberate attempt to poison a particular person,” they added.

“The course of treatment is now being completed, and then there will be a check-up by the doctors,” a source told the news website.

Last week Dmitry Medvedev who is Vladimir Putin’s deputy chairman of the security council of the Russian Federation has issued a chilling threat to the Ukrainian President.

Medvedev has issued an assassination threat to Volodymyr Zelensky warning him that he is “unlikely to have a chance of living to old age.”

President Zelensky has said that he has survived at least five assassination attempts by Russia’s security services.
