Bookmakers have slashed odds on Andy Burnham to become the next Labour Party leader after long-serving MP Andrew Gwynne announced he is stepping down – sparking fresh speculation about who could succeed Sir Keir Starmer.

Latest odds from AceOdds now have Andy Burnham priced at 7/1 to be the next Labour leader, positioning him just behind market favourite Wes Streeting, who is currently priced around 7/2 in the same market.

The move comes as Burnham is set to take over Gwynne’s parliamentary position, a development that could further strengthen his profile within the party.

Sources suggest holding a more prominent role and increased influence could provide Burnham with greater visibility among MPs and party members, giving him a tangible boost as the leadership race begins to take shape.
