Following todays revelation in The Times on 5th July, 2026, regarding Nigel Farage, and his friendship with George Cottrell, often referred to as “Posh George” I have been thinking about whether he will resign or not.
If he does, and another Reform leader takes over, especially if that person is Suella Braverman, or Robert Jenrick, it is my opinion that we will see an alliance with the Conservative Party happen very quickly.
Whether this, alliance of the right, will ultimately triumph at the next General Election is anyone’s guess, but regardless, I can see Rupert Lowe, and his Restore Party, mopping up a good number of former Reform Votes. Not enough to win anything, but maybe enough to spoil the chances of any newly formed, alliance of the right.
My money is on Farage going within a week or two, and all hell breaking loose on the right of politics in the UK.
The next question is what Andy Burnham will do to take advantage of it. If I were him I would call a general election as soon as I opened the door of Number 10, before any alliance between the Conservatives and Reform can get their act together. Waiting until next year, or even worse, 2029 would be a serious mistake. The right of politics will never be weaker than in the immediate aftermath of Farage’s possible resignation.
When my son, and business partner, Leon Fear, and I met Nigel Farage in the Guinea pub in Mayfair, where we had lunch and a pre-Brexit pint with Stuart Wheeler, the spread betting millionaire who was treasurer of UKIP at that time. Both Leon and I were impressed by Nigels self confidence, focus and determination.
In the end, despite their best efforts, we didn’t get involved and in-fact, both voted remain. Whether we would do so again is questionable because the EU is in such a mess. Uncontrolled immigration hasn’t only affected Britain. Parts of France & Belgium have effective, no go area’s. I have visited them and can assure any reader they are as dangerous as anywhere in the UK.
Personally, I can see no option but for Nigel to resign, he is no fool, and is as tough as old boots, so his resignation isn’t guaranteed. However the draw of money making opportunities in the US, and working with his friend, Donald Trump, may tempt him to call it a day in the UK and move onto pastures new.
Living, and working in America, perhaps with The Republican Party, or maybe taking a primetime slot on Fox News? Might well be too tempting to refuse. Why stay and be continually attacked in the media when a golden handshake awaits in, The Land Of The Free.
Clearly, an opportunity exists for him to make many millions of dollars over the next few years, something, for someone in their early 60s, won’t be lost on Nigel Farage you can be sure of that.
So who is your money on to replace him as leader of Reform, if events go as I predict? Braverman or Jenrick, or maybe Danny Kruger?
Will Andy Burnham call a GE immediately? or will he dither, and allow a newly formed “Alliance of The Right” to gain traction? These questions, and many more, are now being asked across Britain.
I feel strongly that this most capable, and colourful, of global politicians is about to become an immigrant himself.
Nigel Farage won’t arrive in New York on a rubber dingy of course, and perhaps even, given his love of sailing, may instead travel on Queen Mary 2, who knows? If he were to do so he would, I’m sure, be invited onto the captains table.
Should Farage choose to take a short sabbatical on his was to, The Land Of The Free, to recharge his batteries, after three decades of political battles this side of the pond, I can’t see Cunard wasting a major opportunity to promote a genuine British icon.
The ship I mean, not the man.
