Are you spending too much time chasing likes instead of sales?

It can be an exhilarating feeling to see one of your social media posts going viral. However, it’s important to remember that likes don’t pay the bills. Unless your posts are also leading to sales, it isn’t effective social media marketing. This is something that’s important to remember if you’ve been spending a lot of time on social media – it’s not time worth spent unless you’re generating likes and leads. Below are some tips on how you can achieve just that.

Focus on relevant value-driven content

When creating social media content, it’s important to avoid going to one of two extremes: being overly promotional or not posting relevant content.

If you’re posting nothing but adverts, you may well get some likes and leads. But a lot of people have learnt to tune out online adverts and may just scroll straight past. These types of people are more likely to be engaged by informational and educational content. This could be behind-the-scenes videos of how things are made, exciting infographics with lots of surprising stats, or links to blog posts with intriguing (but not clickbaity) titles that provide useful advice.

This value driven content can make you more credible and also help people to remember your brand – which can lead to future sales. Of course, you need to make this content relevant to your business. Some companies make the mistake of treating their business page like a personal account – sharing viral memes and political opinions that are not relevant to their business. This content can get people engaging, but it probably won’t generate leads, because it doesn’t link to your business in any way.

Interact with other social media users

Social media is designed to be a social experience. If you’re just publishing posts and not interacting with other users, you may as well be pinning flyers to a public noticeboard. Encouraging comments/replies is vital because it allows you to start a conversation. And conversations can allow you to build relationships which could lead to sales.

Try to post content such as polls and questions that gets people interacting, and reply to each comment. People are more likely to remember you if they’ve interacted with you. From here, they may take an interest in your product/service.

It’s particularly important to keep on top of questions that are directly about your product. The sooner you answer these, the more chances you have of converting them into a customer.

Make sure that you’re also interacting with other people’s content. Comment on posts and get your name out there. This can help you to build leads in a similar way to in-person networking.

Know when to outsource your social media marketing

Social media marketing can be quite time consuming for some people. Finding the right strategies may require a lot of market research. You then need to spend time creating quality content – which may require the help of graphic designers, copywriters and video development companies.

This is why outsourced marketing is so popular. These companies can handle the research for you and help you generate unique top quality content that will  get you likes and leads – all while freeing up time for you to focus on your business.

If you’ve been spending huge amounts of time on social media and are not really getting any customers out of it, don’t give up! It could just be a case of letting professionals take over and help you find the right strategy.

Don’t forget other marketing methods

Some businesses spend too much time focused on social media while forgetting the other mediums that are out there. It’s important to also invest money into things like SEO and search engine advertising, as well as email marketing. Beyond these digital marketing methods, there are also traditional marketing methods to try such as distributing flyers, putting on events and networking in person.

These marketing methods are just as vital for helping you to generate sales, so make sure that they are also getting attention.
