What do you think shoud happen with the new £5 note?
Many have been angered over the use of animal fat in the new £5 note. Some vegans and vegetarians have called for a change in the production process.
A new petition has been launched calling for the use of tallow in the £5 note to be stopped. So far the petition has attracted over 10,000 followers and is due to be delivered to the Bank of England.
The petition says: “The new £5 notes contain animal fat in the form of tallow. This is unacceptable to millions of vegans and vegetarians in the UK. We demand that you cease to use animal products in the production of currency that we have to use.”
This issue came to light after the Bank of England replied to a question on Twitter.
@SteffiRox there is a trace of tallow in the polymer pellets used in the base substrate of the polymer £5 notes
