Alex Salmond the former Scottish first minister has appeared in Edinburgh’s High Court on Thursday, over alleged sexual assaults and rape charges.
Salmond is facing a total 14 charges including two counts of attempted rape, to which he has strenuously denied and will defend himself “to the upmost.”
The offences are alleged to have taken place between June 2008 and November 2014.
Salmond’s QC, Gordon Jackson said he “pleads not guilty,” Judge Lady Dorrian has set the trial for 9 March 2020, the trial is expected to last four weeks.
After the brief preliminary hearing, Salmond said outside the court that he is innocent of all charges.
He said, “The only proper place to answer criminal charges is in this court, and that is exactly what I intend to do next spring.”
Salmond was Scotland’s first minister from 2007 until 2014 when he stood down as SNP leader and first minister.
