Royal Mail wins High court injunction preventing strike action

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) was planning a mass 48-hour strike however, Royal Mail won an injunction at the High Court Thursday afternoon, blocking the largest postal stirke in eight years.

Justice Supperstone, who granted the high court injunction, said: “I consider the strike call to be unlawful and the defendant is obliged to withdraw its strike call until the external mediation process has been exhausted.”

Royal Mail said that members of the CWU said that because no external mediation process had taken place they are therefore they would be in breach of their contract.

The CWU said that they have been trying to find a resolution to the dispute for 18 months, Royal Mail said that the injunction will prevent hundreds of thousands of people across the UK being inconvenienced.
