NATO has claimed that Vladimir Putin has asked the Chinese President for “lethal weapons” during Xi Jinping’s three day stay in Moscow.

NATO’s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Tuesday that Beijing are “considering” Putin’s request for lethal aid.

Stoltenberg made the accusation as he unveiled the annual 2022 report and said that only seven out of NATO’s 30 member states met the 2% target of GDP on defence.

Stoltenberg admitted, “We haven’t seen proof that China is delivering lethal weapons to Russia.”

He then added, “But we have seen some signs that this has been requested from Russia and it is something that is being considered in Beijing by the Chinese authorities.”

The Chinese President met with Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev to allegedly set out proposals for an apparent ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv.

Jinping also met with the Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and he was invited to Beijing as well as Putin to forge closer ties.

Spokesman Boris Belyakov said, “Mikhail Vladimirovich Mishustin has accepted the invitation from Chinese President Mr Xi Jinping to visit China.”

Jinping said, “Yesterday, I invited President Putin to visit China later in the year at a time convenient for him as the third One Belt, One Road international forum will take place in China this year.

“President Putin attended the first two forums.”

The Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitri Peskov said on Tuesday, “Obviously, a detailed exchange of views, a serious conversation in its informal part has taken place.

“I will not provide any assessment now, let’s wait for media statements by leaders of the two countries.

“Let’s wait for media statements, let’s not run ahead.”
