EU warned of the ‘full measure’ of retaliation as NATO allows Kyiv to attack ‘targets in Russia’

26th May 24 3:42 pm

NATO’s chief has given Kyiv permission to hit “targets in Russia” as Ukraine has the right to “defend itself” from Russia.

Ukrainian forces will now be allowed to use western weapons to destroy targets deep inside the Russian Federation.

NATO’s General Secretary said, “This is Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine. Ukraine has the right to defend itself.

“This includes strikes on targets in Russia.”

In February, NATO’s chief gave Kyiv the green light to conduct “strikes” on legitimate military targets inside Russia which risks escalating the conflict wider into Europe.

Sweden has said that Ukraine is also allowed to use their weapons to hit targets deep inside Russia.

Defence minister Pal Jonson told Swedish newspaper Hallandsposten, “Ukraine is exposed to an unprovoked and illegal war of aggression by Russia.

“According to international law, Ukraine has the right to defend itself by means of hostilities aimed at the territory of the adversary as long as the hostilities comply with the laws of war.

“Sweden stands behind international law and Ukraine’s right to defend itself.”

However, the US President Joe Biden has been slow in allowing Kyiv to use their weapons inside Russia as he and his administration fear this will cause an escalation with Moscow.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that all those who are invited to the alleged peace conference in Switzerland should be made aware that Stoltenberg has authorised Ukraine to attack Russia.

Zakharova said,“It is useful to know this for everyone who is invited to the alleged ‘peace conference’ in Switzerland.

“Russia is responding to that and will continue to respond.”

Zakharova then warned the EU will feel the “full measure” of Russian retaliation against Stolenberg’s decision allowing Kyiv to strike Russia.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, said the conference in Switzerland is a “road leading nowhere.”

The Kremlin has warned London that if any British made weapons are used to strike the Russian Federation, then Moscow will hit UK targets “beyond” Ukraine’s borders.

Zakharova warned that UK targets “on Ukraine’s territory and beyond its borders” will be struck.

Moscow also issued a grave threat that they will target “any UK military facility” if Ukraine fires British made long-range missiles inside Russia.

Lord David Cameron gave Kyiv a green light to hit targets in Russia using British made weapons.

Cameron told Reuters, “Just as Russia is striking inside Ukraine, you can quite understand why Ukraine feels the need to make sure it’s defending itself.”

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Cameron’s statement “had de facto recognised his country as a part of the conflict,” adding that this is a “serious escalation” by the UK.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “The Kremlin views Cameron’s statements about Kyiv’s right to use British weapons to strike the Russian Federation as a direct escalation.
