President Volodymyr Zelensky has vowed to bring “freedom to Ukraine and citizens in Crimea” and in a warning to Moscow he said “it started in Crimea and will end in Crimea.”

The return of Crimea to Ukraine will be the largest anti-war step in Europe Zelensky told delegatinos from 50 countries.

He said: “To overcome terror, to return predictability and security to our region, Europe and the whole world, we need to win. Win the fight against Russian aggression.

“Therefore, we need to free Crimea from occupation as well. It started in Crimea and it will end in Crimea.”

On Wednesday it will be Ukraine’s 31st annivesary of their independence from Soviet rule and foreign intelligence has warned that Russia are planning to attack civilians in Kyiv.

President Zelensky was asked by the visiting Polish President Andrzej Duda over the possibility of a Russian missile strike on Kyiv.

“Russia does this all the time. Can they increase the number of these strikes? Yes, they can do it on 23-24 August,” Zelenskyy said.

“What will Ukraine do if they hit Kyiv? The same as now. Because for me as president, and for every Ukrainian, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Donbas, it is all the same. Ukrainians live there. (And) Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia.”

“If they hit us, they will receive a response, a powerful response,” he added.

“I want to say that each day this response will grow, it will get stronger and stronger.”

Zelensky said, speaking at the opening of the online summit of the Crimea Platform, “The Russian occupation has turned Crimea – and this is really a paradise for all of us – into a dependent and depressed region.

“To a region of high fences, barbed wires and lawlessness, to an environmental disaster zone and a military springboard for aggression.

“Since February 24, 750 different cruise missiles have been launched from the occupied Crimea at our cities and communities.

“They destroyed at least hundreds of civilian objects: schools, universities, ordinary residential buildings.

“And therefore, the restoration of Ukraine’s control over the Crimean peninsula will be the largest anti-war step in Europe.”
