Berlin has said that they will do “everything possible” to help Ukraine defend their country from Vladimir Putin’s winter offensive.

Russian forces are preparing to hit Ukraine’s energy infrastructure as the winter months will see temperatures of minus 20C in an attempt to freeze the population into submission.

Following a meeting with the German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at a summit in Granada, Spain, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Berlin are working to send the Patriot air defence systems.

President Zelensky said, “Germany is working on providing Ukraine with an additional Patriot system for the winter months.

“I’m grateful for Germany’s support in defending our freedom and people.”

Scholz later told reporters that he told Zelensky, “that Germany will supply one of the most highly effective defence weapons, namely the Patriot air defence system.”

“This is a very far-reaching protection, there are not so many of them available,” he said.

“We have already made such a delivery possible. That was already very difficult for us.

If we do it again now, it will be a very far-reaching measure that will also serve Ukraine’s security on a large scale. Everyone in Ukraine knows that, and especially the president, of course.”

Spain has also said that they will send Ukraine six HAWK air defence systems, President Zelensky told reporters.

Zelensky said, “I am very pleased that today we have strong progress in this direction. These are six Hawk systems from Pedro Sanchez, from the Prime Minister, the Government of Spain. And this will be joint work with partners, but under the chairmanship of Spain,” he said.

“And we have a powerful decision at the meeting with Mr. Chancellor Scholz. The German government will work to provide Ukraine with another Patriot system. I believe that this is the only system today that can withstand such mass killings,” Zelensky added.
