Serious Fraud Office opens investigation into Airbus over bribery and corruption allegations

The UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is investigationg “fraud, bribery and corruption” allegations made at aviation giant Airbus.

The news comes after UK authorities stopped export credit applicationa made by the France-based aircraft manufacturer.

Airbus said it was co-operating with the probe, which was launched last month.

A statement from the SFO said: “The director of the Serious Fraud Office has opened a criminal investigation into allegations of fraud, bribery and corruption in the civil aviation business of Airbus Group. These allegations relate to irregularities concerning third party consultants.”

Airbus said in a statement: “Airbus Group has been informed by the SFO that it has opened a criminal investigation into allegations of fraud, bribery and corruption in the civil aviation business of Airbus Group relating to irregularities concerning third party consultants.

“Airbus Group continues to cooperate with the SFO.”
