The former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has warned that Kyiv does not have “enough weapons to stop” Vladimir Putin.

Poroshenko did say Kyiv has the correct “formula for victory” and that the West and allies must continue to help Ukraine.

He told Sky News speaking from the eastern Donbas region it will be difficult to “throw Putin away from Ukrainian soil.”

He added, “Fighter jets alone cannot solve the problem, but they can stop Russian dominance in the Ukrainian sky.

“We have enough weapons to withstand and stop Putin, but we do not have enough weapons to provide an effective operation and throw Putin away from the Ukrainian soil.”

Poroshenko urged the West to keep providing tanks, air defences, ammunition and long-range missiles.

“We in Ukraine are fighting not only for our soil, not only for our people, we are protecting the free democratic world,” he added.

This comes as the Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Błaszczak, said at a meeting of the National Security Council that Ukraine have already received their “first batch” of Leopard 2 main battle tanks.

The German made Leopards will be a game changer for Ukrainian forces to push back Russian troops over the coming weeks.

President Andrzej Duda said, “The prime minister couldn’t be here, he went to Kyiv to bring Leopard tanks which are the first batch delivered to Ukraine.”

In the coming weeks a squadron of British Challenger 2 main battle tanks will arrive in Ukraine.
