King Charles III has said in a message marking the conflict’s first anniversary that the Ukrainians have shown “truly remarkable courage and residence” against Vladimir Putin
Earlier this month King Charles met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Buckingham Palace.
King Charles said, “The world has watched in horror at all the unnecessary suffering inflicted upon Ukrainians, many of whom I have had the great pleasure of meeting here in the UK and, indeed, across the world, from Romania to Canada.”
King Charles expressed his personal support for Ukraine during the meeting with President Zelensky.
He said, “It is heartening that the United Kingdom, along with its allies, is doing everything possible to help at this most difficult time.
“Therefore, I can only hope the outpouring of solidarity from across the globe may bring not only practical aid, but also strength from the knowledge that, together, we stand united.”
President Zelensky said in Kyiv on Friday morning, it “has been a year of tears,” adding, “On February 24, millions of us made a choice.
“Not a white flag, but the blue and yellow one.
Not fleeing, but facing. Resisting & fighting.
“It was a year of pain, sorrow, faith, and unity. And this year, we remained invincible. We know that 2023 will be the year of our victory!”
