Lord David Cameron has denied claims that RAF airstrikes in Yemen against the Iranian backed Houthis militants will create an escalation in the Middle East.

Lord Cameron warned the world in is in a period of peril and that the “lights are absolutely flashing red as it were on the global dashboard.”

The Foreign Secretary said that the Houthis militants are the ones who have made great efforts to escalate the conflict in the Middle East by attacking commercial vessels in the Red Sea.

The actions of the Houthis is posing a threat to global trade of container vessels passing through the Suez Canal which is now forcing them to travel thousands of miles around the Cape of Good Hope which could raise prices by as much as 30%.

“The escalation has been caused by the Houthis. I mean the point is since November 19, you have had these 26 attacks,” Lord Cameron told the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg.

He added, “There have been more of them, they have been getting worse, and you know, not acting is also a policy, it is a policy that doesn’t work.”

Speaking to Sky News Lord Cameron said, “Our view is look, take a step back from this, it is hard to think of a time when there has been so much danger and insecurity and instability in the world.

“The lights are absolutely flashing red as it were on the global dashboard.”

Lord Cameron added, “What we need at that time is strong leadership and a clear plan, that is what we have with the Prime Minister and the team in place.”

However, despite Lord Cameron’s claims an expert has warned that the Houthi militants are “bloodthirsty” and the ongoing conflict in Yemen and the Middle East could lead to a “world war.”

The US and UK launched airstrikes on Houthi targets in Yemen in the early hours of Friday and overnight through to Saturday morning the US launched another air campaign against the militants.

The Lib Dems have criticised Minister as they did not take any steps to announce the planned strikes by the RAF and Royal Navy in the Commons.

However, Lord Cameron has insisted that Rishi Sunak had “followed all the correct procedures” before the airstrikes and he did assemble Ministers and he listened to advice, and then consulted with allies.

The Foreign Secretary added, “There will be a statement in Parliament on Monday.

“I don’t think it would have been right to have a debate and a vote before this sort of action, because I think it is important for reasons of operational security to on this occasion take the action and then have a statement in Parliament afterwards.”

Middle Eastern experts are warning the airstrikes by the US and UK is risking a wider conflict across the Middle East.
