The world famous O2 Arena in east London has had it’s roof shredded and ripped open by the strong winds brought by Storm Eunice.

Footage has appeared on social media showing the famous white dome in Greenwich with a large area of the roof torn on the south side of the O2 Arena on Friday.

The Met Office has issued London with a rare red weather warning as wind gusts are reaching up to 90 mph in the capital.

Mala Sharma who saw the roof being ripped off, told the PA news agency that “more and more parts are getting ripped off.”

Sharma added, “it’s going to be a safety issue for people around.”

She said the damage caused by the strong winds “started off with a patch” then a “chunk” of the roof was ripped off at the O2 Arena.
