The Kremlin has warned on Thursday that Russia is in direct confrontation with NATO and some of the alliance are directly involved in the war with Ukraine.

The Kremlin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that NATO are expanding their borders towards Russia’s borders.

Peskov said, “In fact, NATO continues to demonstrate its essence, because NATO was envisioned as an alliance, configured, created and managed by the United States as an instrument of confrontation, primarily on the European continent.

“NATO continues to fulfil its functions in this regard, which, however, in no way contributes to security, predictability and stability on the continent, but on the contrary – represents a destabilising factor.

This comes as NATO are marking their 75th anniversary on Thursday as Foreign Minister’s including Lord David Cameron are in Brussels to discuss long-term support for Ukraine.

NATO secretary-general Jens Stoltenberg said, “I like the Washington Treaty. Not least because it is very short.

“Just 14 paragraphs over a few pages. Never has a single document with so few words meant so much to so many people. So much security. So much prosperity, and so much peace.”
