Research by VoucherCodes.co.uk and the Centre for Retail Research reveals British households are predicted to spend an average of £831 on Christmas this year, parting with an average of £493 on Christmas gifts for loved ones, on everything from clothing and footwear to consumer electronics and cosmetics

The findings show millions of households will spend an estimated £238 on food and drink for the festivities this year, with the price of Christmas dinner set to rise as the nation prepares to spend £13 more than last year feeding the family

Online spend at Christmas now accounts for 32% of total Christmas spending in the UK, up from 29% in 2017, as consumers shop online to snap up bargains from the comfort of their own homes

Shopping on mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) has also continued to increase in the UK – from a total of £11.33bn in 2017 to £13.61bn in 2018; £7.53bn of which is on smartphones (compared to £6.07bn in 2017)

An average of £32 per household will be spent on decorations to give homes festive makeovers, whilst £70 will be spent on travelling to families and friends across the country for celebrations

A massive 4.8m will be surfing the web and 10.1m shoppers hitting the high street for last-minute purchases on the last Saturday before Christmas.
