Ukraine to ‘reach’ similar artillery shell production to Russia and Tomahawks will send a ‘sober’ message

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Ukraine and NATO will reach a similar volume of artillery shell production in 2026 to that of Russia.

Sending a warning shot to Vladimir Putin, President Zelensky warned in the future the artillery track could be stronger than Russia.

President Zelensky said, “In 2026, we and the European Union are reaching a volume of artillery shot production that will be equal to the production of the Russian Federation. And therefore, if our partners accelerate their production a little, in the future we can be stronger than Russia in terms of artillery.

“This is an important track.”

He added, “But there is another issue there – the issue of the 155mm calibre.

“That is, if you have enough systems, you cannot replace some guys with old Soviet ones and give them this gun, because the 155mm calibre is not enough for such a number.

“Although, of course, we are going in the right direction, there will be enough systems, the army will have the 155mm calibre.”

On the subject of Washington sending Ukraine Tomahawk cruise missiles it still remains unclear if these high precision missiles will be used on certain targets deep in side Russia, Donald Trump has made it clear he wants to know what the targets are before he allows them to be used.

The Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said just by Ukraine having the Tomahawk cruise missiles, this will send a strong message to Moscow, but only if they are allowed to be used.

Tsahkna said, “Any support we can provide to Ukraine without restrictions will help them win the war and push Russia back. The supply of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv would be a very strong signal to Moscow.”

Tomahawk’s are high precisions cruise missiles which can target land or sea targets up to 2,500km away and cost around $4 million each.

On 7 October the US President was asked by a journalist if he will send the cruise missiles, Trump said, “Yes, I have already made a decision approximately.

He said before he makes his final decision he wants to know exactly what they will be used for.

President Zelensky said the Tomahawk cruise missiles will make Russia “sober,” adding, “A little sober, sit down at the negotiating table. And if there is a ceasefire, then this fact itself, as I said, will affect the possibility of reaching an agreement later, of having a plan.

“It will not be a simple plan to end the war, but still this is definitely the way.”
