As Turkish currency hit a record low of around 7 to the US dollar, President Tayyip Erdogan hit back at Trump administration and said he expected attacks on Turkey’s economy to continue.
Erdogan told reporters in Ankara today: “You act on one side as a strategic partner, but on the other, you fire bullets into the foot of your strategic partner. We are together in Nato and then you seek to stab your strategic partner in the back.”
Last week, the US President had escalated a diplomatic feud by doubling tariffs on steel and aluminum on Turkey.
I have just authorized a doubling of Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum with respect to Turkey as their currency, the Turkish Lira, slides rapidly downward against our very strong Dollar! Aluminum will now be 20% and Steel 50%. Our relations with Turkey are not good at this time!
