As the UK’s leading e-scooter operator, with more than 15 cities participating in our trials, we welcome the start of the tender process to run e-scooter trials in the capital.

London is a world-leader in the provision of public transport and has been at the forefront of integrating technology and transport for many years, keeping this great city moving.

Shared E-scooters offer London the ability to step up to the next level of electric vehicle innovation, providing a safe, inclusive, carbon-free way for people to get around the capital quickly. We are confident that Voi can help to put London on a new path to a low-carbon micro-mobility future, while helping people return to the capital’s centre safely and thereby aid in the city’s economic recovery, replacing car trips.

Most experienced operator

Voi already operates e-scooters for sharing in many of Europe’s biggest cities, including Berlin, Marseille, Stockholm and Hamburg and in the UK Northampton, Birmingham, Liverpool, Cambridge, Bath and Bristol with more to be announced soon.

We are also honoured to be operating the biggest European shared e-scooter contract tender of its kind in Europe, across the West Midlands. So far, over 30 million rides have been taken on Voi e-scooters across Europe, creating a new accessible and flexible way of travelling which integrates brilliantly with other transport options. Shared e-scooters have huge potential to help commuters return to the city centre and bring life back to the West End.

They will be crucial in helping to relieve congestion in inner and outer boroughs, offering a viable alternative to cars. In the last few months, they have also been crucial in providing a safe new socially-distant way for people to travel during the pandemic, helping cities to rebuild and repair their economies.

Bespoke approach

London’s distinct boroughs each pose their own transport challenges.Voi understands how these are different and will work both with Transport for London and each council to create a bespoke plan to serve each area’s needs. Our experience in the UK and across Europe has helped us to develop a process of constant improvement and innovation, which is ultra-responsive to every city’s or borough needs and priorities.

Collaborating on safety

Safety is Voi’s number one priority. By working together with transport authorities, police and vulnerable groups, and combining education, technological solutions and investment in infrastructure, we can keep riders, pedestrians and other road users safe.

Innovations including the first online traffic school #RideLikeVoila, the introduction of number plates on all e-scooters to make it easy to identify riders and the presence of Voi ambassadors to better manage scooter activity, particularly parking, are just a few of the changes introduced to ensure the success of our trials. On the technology front, Voi’s pioneering AI and computer vision is enabling Voi e-scooters to ‘sense’ pedestrians and react accordingly to ensure both riders and pedestrian safety, creating a safer city for all. We intend to enable London to take its rightful place as a world leader in low-carbon transport innovation.

Fredrik Hjelm, Voi’s CEO said: “London will need an operator with strong experience. At Voi, we have experience operating in more than 50 European cities across Europe and the U.K., from Berlin to Rome or Northampton. We know how important it is to create bespoke solutions for each one of them and we share the same commitment to safety. Micromobility has a key role to play in helping London ride the way to a green economic recovery while keeping the pledge to ‘Vision Zero, a vision that was born in Sweden.”
