Russian forces are using the deadly thermobaric munitions which are being launched from multiple-launch rocket systems (MLRS) which can vaporise a human.
The thermobaric munitions are being used in the Donetsk Oblast in the town of Chasiv Yar which “destroy and burn everything.”
Nazar Voloshyn, the spokesperson for the Khortytsia group of forces announced the news on Thursday as Russian forces are now focusing their efforts on the town.
If Russian forces capture the town this could then pave the way for increased advances in the region as Chasiv Yar is of a higher elevation, the Kyiv Independent reports.
Voloshyn said that the thermobaric munitions “destroy and burn everything in their path” and the use of these weapons is forcing Ukrainian “defenders to have no place to defend (from.”
Chasiv Yar was home for 12,000 residents and 670 stayed behind as Russia upped their attacks on the town, since May “almost” everything is now “destroyed.”
A thermobaric munition or vacuum bomb sucks up all the oxygen from the air including a person’s lungs causing instant death, it also creates negative pressure after the initial explosive fireball.
In March 2022 shortly after the war started Vladimir Putin ordered the use of the devastating thermobaric missiles in civilian areas, these are banned under the Geneva Convention.
The thermobaric weapons which include the TOS-1 “Buratino” and TOS-1A “Solntsepek,” are very capable of “melting armies” and are one of the most dangerous weapons on the battlefield.
The thermobaric missiles systems suck in oxygen from the area of the explosion which generates a more powerful blast which cause very high temperatures which can vaporise the enemy.
At the time a Western official said the thermobaric missiles are a cause for “considerable concern.”
The official added, “Certainly, if it is used in any built-up area, there is no way you can eradicate the risk of significant civilian casualties.”
The CIA states that vacuum bombs can “obliterate” anybody who are “near the ignition point.”
The US intelligence agency added, “Those at the fringe are likely to suffer many internal, thus invisible injuries, including burst eardrums and crushed inner ear organs, severe concussions, ruptured lungs and internal organs, and possibly blindness.”
