Russia are testing robot pilots in their deadliest fighter jets, making the country another step closer to an army of autonomous war machines.

Russian state media have reported that the air force have conducted unmanned tests using a Su-57 fighter jet at a secret test site.

The Su-57 is Russia’s first stealth fighter jet, and military experts have said this “fifth-generation fighter” has state of the art weaponry.

Military aviation experts have compared the Russian stealth jet to that of the US Ai Force’s F-22 Raptor, which cannot be detected by radar.

The F-22 Raptor was developed by Lockhead Martin and is a single seat twin engine, and is an all weather stealth tactical fighter jet.

The Raptor was designed primarily as an air superiority fighter, which has ground attack, electronic warfare and signal intelligence capabilities, which costs $150m each.
