Qatar warns the killing of Hamas leader is a ‘dangerous escalation’

Qatar has issued a statement over the assassination of the Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in the Iranian capital on Tuesday evening.

Qatar’s Foreign Minister condemned the assassination by Israel in the “strongest terms” and warned this is a “dangerous escalation.”

The Foreign Ministry of Qatar posted on X they condemn the assassination in “the strongest terms the assassination of Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, and considers it a heinous crime, a dangerous escalation, and a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law.”

“The Qatari Ministry expresses the condolences to the families of the head of the Hamas political bureau and his companions,” they added.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry said in an official statement on Wednesday this is an “escalatory crime” and will cause more “tension” in the region over the assassination of Haniyeh in Tehran.

The statement said this is “in violation of international law and international humanitarian law.”

The killing of Haniyeh is “escalatory crime that will push towards more tension and chaos in the region.”

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry said that Amman condemns “political assassinations, violence and terrorism, whatever their motives,” Jordan has demanded measures to be taken to end Israeli “aggression in Gaza.”
